Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate that the nonlinear tolerance of 10 Gb/s/ch nonreturn to zero (NRZ) dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) systems over 1500 km standard single mode fiber (SSMF) can be significantly improved through the use of orthogonal polarization switching between adjacent bits in a single wavelength channel.
