Abstract
UWB-IR uses extreme short pulses and has the advantage of extremely high path resolutions. However, multipath is spread over dozens of symbols in the case of ultra high- speed communications of several hundreds Mbps, which causes the strong frequency selective channel and makes intersymbol interference (ISI) strongly influence it. As a result, the trans- mission performance degrades. Meanwhile, iterative equalization that uses energy spreading transform (EST) is proposed as an equalization method that decreases the influence of ISI. The performance of iterative equalization based on EST is evaluated with QPSK modulation on the Proakis-B channel. However, the performance of UWB-IR in UWB channel with iterative equalization based on EST has not been clarified. In this paper, we evaluate the bit error rate (BER) of UWB-IR with iterative equalization based on EST in UWB channel and compare it to that of UWB-IR with minimum mean square error (MMSE)- frequency domain equalization (FDE) and iterative equalization without EST. As a result, we show that UWB-IR with iterative equalization based on EST can achieve the better BER than UWB-IR with MMSE-FDE and UWB-IR with iterative equal- ization without EST.
