Abstract

Abstract This paper proposes a new dual inductor-based converter for an autonomous photovoltaic (PV) water pumping system without the use of a battery bank. This converter is used to provide continuous power to the three-phase induction motor drive directly from the PV array. The proposed system offers two boosting stages to boost the low value of PV array output voltage into a high-value dc voltage, which is required for the dc link of the three-phase inverter. The dual inductor-based converter provides power to the load in both the ON state and OFF state of the chopping switch over buck, boost, and Ćuk converters used in PV-integrated water pumping applications. The principle of operation of the proposed dual inductor-based converter-fed, three-phase induction motor are analyzed and discussed. The MATLAB simulation and experimental prototype results are presented to validate the performance of the proposed dual boost converter-fed, three-phase induction motor.
