Abstract

The multilevel inverters have been in limelight for a long time because the conventional two level inverters have not been able to deliver the industry specifications. On the other hand multilevel inverters, owing to their large number of advantages have attracted several spheres. There has been huge development on the reduced switch count of the converters. However, the performance parameters of the converters vary with the modulation techniques. This paper aims at discussing the fundamental switching frequency modulation techniques implied in different application oriented converters. The modulation techniques are implemented in MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The switching angles for different levels are investigated for various methodologies and their comparison on the basis of THD is done. The graphical illustration of 9 level inverter is presented to visualize the distinction.
