Abstract

Recent development in converters have given pathway to high gain step-up converter having low output voltage ripple. High Gain Step-up Converters find their way between Photovoltaic Voltage (PV) and Direct Current (DC) loads. The objective of this work is to identify a step-up converter with high gain and low voltage ripple. A Modified High Gain Step-up Converter (MHGSC) with a higher voltage gain and lower voltage ripple is proposed in this paper. The MHGSC uses coupled inductor and a switched capacitor to produce high voltage gain. The performance comparison is carried out in terms of output voltage; output current, output power and voltage ripple with a Boost converter and conventional High Step-Up Converter(HSUC) of same rating. Extensive simulation has been carried out using MATLAB/Simulink. The simulation results indicate that MHGSC is efficient with higher output power and lower ripple in the output voltage.
