Abstract

Climate change established the need for decarbonization of energy delivery system and efforts are put in to develop the technologies that will help us to achieve these objectives. The use of renewable energy sources in the current electricity generation mix is one such approach adopted by nations and policy makers across the globe. The use and increase in penetration level of renewable energy source integration not only demand efficient electrical-energy delivery architecture but also push for efficient energy storage system, and load control strategies. Increase in the penetration levels force to tackle the issues namely, intermittency and availability of energy sources. Further analysis of penetration levels issue suggests a need for energy storage systems, which has key attributes such as efficiency, environment friendly, longer life. Such key attributes need to be confirmed by rigorous testing and validation strategy. Such testing and validation strategy not only improves the performance of energy system under consideration but also paves the way for next course of action. In this paper, development of test plan and testing of such energy storage system for various targeted applications is discussed. The paper also describes the basis for development of such test plans and discusses the results and its impact on the rolling out such solutions. Paper concludes with suggestions for future work.
