Abstract

In recent times the computational power of personal computers has remarkably increased and the use of groups of PCs and workstations, connected by a network and dedicated to parallel computations, is today frequent. Computing clusters are mainly based on UNIX workstations and Linux PCs but, in the last few years, different implementations of message passing systems were made available also for Microsoft Windows. In this work we test the performance of two implementations of MPI for Windows platforms, and we compare the results with those obtained from Linux systems.
