Abstract
This study presents the outdoor performance assessment of a 2.5 MW solar-photovoltaic power plant installed at Navrongo, in the northern part of Ghana. The system's hourly energy output and environmental data between June 2013 and May 2016 were collected and analysed. The average yearly energy generated by the installation was 3547.8 MWh, while the performance ratio was found to be 70.4% and levelized cost of energy estimated as US$0.2411/kWh. Using the prevailing exchange rate at the time of commissioning and guaranteed feed-in tariff, the installation's discounted payback period is estimated at 14.95 years. Furthermore, the solar PV power plant project has saved over 3852 metric tons of carbon per year since its installation.
