Abstract

Comparative performance evaluation of a continuous and a discontinuous magnetic circuit Annular Linear Induction Pump (ALIP) is presented in this paper. The analysis is based on a two-dimensional finite element method (FEM) based model. When stator magnetic circuit becomes continuous the end effects vanishes where as a discontinuous magnetic circuit leads to end-effects which reduces the performance of the pump. Variation in both local parameters (like flux density, current density) and global characteristics (input current, power and developed pressure) is evaluated at different flow rates to study the impact of end-effects on pump performance.
