Abstract

One of the most important thing in the power system protection is the fast detection of fault and isolation of faults. Depending upon the present power requirement a number of work has been carried out on DC-microgrid (DCM), therefore fast and accurate detection of fault will increase stability of power electronics switches and thereby enhancing the controllability of those converters. In this paper an investigation has been carried out for detection of fault using HHT(Hilbert Huang Transformation) scheme for fast tripping protection in case of DCM. The scheme will utilize the EMD (Empirical Mode Decomposition) scheme to evaluate the high-frequency components present in the DC currents. The proposed techniques has been analyzed and verified by using MATLAB based Simulink model.
