Abstract

The future grid encourages distributed energy resources (DER) integration with main power grid to mitigate with the problems of demand-supply mismatch. However for real-time monitoring of voltage profile and line flows it is necessary to continuously run the load flow. However, distribution network (DN) suffers from non-convergence of conventional load flow method (Newton-Raphson) because of high WX ratio. This has motivated to develop a better load flow solution method which will help to address the above mentioned issues with proper allocation of DER for performance enhancement of three-phase unbalance DN. The paper proposes modified forward/backward sweep (FBS) method which helps to identify the weak nodes in network violating the given operating constraints and recommends to implement DERs on such weak nodes to improve voltage profile and reduce stress on power system network. The two-fold contribution of the paper in development of method and performance enhancement is validated using standard IEEE 34 bus which confirms the effectiveness of DERs insertion for three-phase unbalance DN.
