Abstract

This paper provides a method that appends and removes efficiently the cyclic prefix and the cyclic suffix by means of an inter-block interference elimination for a frequency domain equalization (FDE) in faster-than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling schemes. Furthermore, we propose various transmission schemes to integrate such an FTN signaling in the single-carrier FDE system. We propose FTN transmission schemes combined with various FDE techniques such as a post-equalization, a pre-equalization, and a balanced equalization in the FTN-SC-FDE system. We prove that the proposed transmission schemes yield improved performances by deriving the instantaneous bit error rate and error probability. Finally, we evaluate the analytical results and the simulation results of the performance of various FTN-SC-FDE schemes. Our proposed schemes can be applied to enhance the spectral efficiency of the satellite broadcasting systems like DVB-S2/S2X as well as the return channels of interactive broadcasting systems.
