Abstract

Fine granularity scalable video encoder is important for obtaining good image quality for Internet video. However, it may need a very long motion estimation time. In this paper, we present a novel structure to correctly reduce the number of motion estimations in fine granularity scalable video encoder. Besides, we also propose an improved motion estimation algorithm which approximates to the performance of the existing four-step search algorithm but has better image qualities. All proposed methods have been tested on several video sequences. The experimental results confirm the efficiency of these methods.
