Abstract
The objective of this paper is to perform the comparative study between two control strategies based on Vector Space Decomposition (VSD) method for Dual Three Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (DTP-PMSM), applied on electric ship propulsion, namely Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation using 12-Sector (12-sector PWM) and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation using 24-Sector (24-sector PWM). These two techniques can be considered among the family of Vector Control (VC) methods and provide a solution for highperformance drives, reduction in electromagnetic torque as well as diminishing the extra stator current harmonics. Advantages and drawbacks of both methods are discussed and different simulation tests are performed to illustrate the features of both methods. The criteria followed to establish a just comparison between both of the control approaches is also presented. The dynamic model and control of the motor are accomplished in three two-dimensional orthogonal subspaces. The simulations' results, in Matlab/Simulink environment, validate well the performance of these two control strategies.
