Abstract

A three-phase Voltage Source Converter (VSC) can be operated as a rectifier or inverter for transfer of power in High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) application. Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) and Space Vector Modulation (SVM) are the most prominent methods for providing gate signal to the switches of a three-phase Voltage Source Converter (VSC). In this paper, a simulation study of three-phase two level PWM rectifier using SPWM and SVM methods has been done in MATLAB/SIMULINK and performance of the VSC for input power factor, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of input line current and DC bus utilization using the two methods have been compared. It is observed that SVM gives better performance as compared to SPWM method.
