Abstract
In this paper different dispersion compensation techniques are discussed and evaluated. Two most dispersion compensation methods are dispersion compensation fiber (DCF) and fiber bragg grating (FBG). A model is designed with non return to zero transmission system over 100 km single mode fiber (SMF) for 10 Gbps. Different results are obtained using linear chirped FBG (LcFBG), square root chirped FBG (ScFBG), cube root chirped FBG with tanh apodized FBG, using DCF and with combined DCF and uniform FBG. The performance is calculated and compared in terms of quality factor and bit error rate (BER) and found that combined DCF and uniform FBG technique gives better performance compared to all other techniques. Performance of different chirped FBG techniques is also observed in terms of quality factor and BER and found that linear chirped FBG gives better performance aprroximately 78% better with respect to other chirped FBG.
