Abstract

Mist eliminators are commonly used to prevent the carry-over of working fluids in large capacity of absorption refrigeration system. Configurations such as vertically installed eliminator blades effectively suppress the carry-over, but excessive water vapor flow causes significant pressure drops in the eliminators. The present study proposes mist eliminators that have horizontally installed blades. Experimental investigations are conducted to characterize the carry-over rate and pressure drop to evaluate the performance of the proposed applications. Computational fluid dynamics simulations were conducted to explain the flow behavior through the eliminators. The results indicate that the pressure drop is lowered by the proposed horizontal eliminator compared to the existing vertical configuration, and the carry-over rate is determined in terms of each eliminator tested.
