Abstract

A large aperture, segmented lead scintillation sandwich electromagnetic shower detector is constructed and tested in an electron beam. The detector is composed of eight layers of a 1 8 in scintillator and 1.5 in of lead. The test data using a 500 MeV electron beam agrees well with the prediction of a Monte Carlo program developed by the authors. The pulse height dispersion at 500 MeV is measured to be ±42%.
