Abstract

Abstract Twenty-two non-purging bulimic subjects requested outpatient, fee-for-service treatment from a behaviorally-oriented eating disorders clinic. Graduated exposure in vivo to “trigger” foods was the principal intervention, and a non-concurrent multiple baseline design across subjects was implemented to assess effects of treatment. Results showed significant decreases in frequency of binge eating which generally corresponded with onset of treatment. Follow-up data indicated that treatment gains were maintained. Subjects who were overweight or obese generally lost significant amounts of weight. Implications to the treatment of binge eating and obesity are discussed.
