Abstract
A cognitive architecture for an artificial vision system, aimed for an autonomous intelligent system, is presented with particular attention to performance aspects. The architecture, based on the active vision paradigm, is cognitive in the sense that several cognitive hypotheses have been postulated as guidelines for its design in order to achieve good performance.
