Abstract

In this work, an attempt has been made to improve the heat transmit enhancement through winglets in a rectangular canal. The internal surface attachment (wings) are made with the same material as that of the micro canal. The geometric parameters such as wing height, wing thickness, and wing pitch are considered. For optimizing the geometric parameters, L9 orthogonal design of experiments array is used. The 2D geometry analysis of this work for fluid flow and heat transfer is performed using Ansys-FLUENT. The grid dependent investigation test is conducted to ensure the uncertainty within the domain cells. The output response of the numerical simulation is optimized with sound-to-noise (S/N) ratio. Analysis Of Variance (ANOVA) test is performed to predict the percentage contribution of each factor. The operational parameter performance of the inlet velocity has been analyzed on the optimized geometry of the micro canal. The optimized values of winglet geometry are 5 mm of height, 7.5 mm of thickness and 15 mm of pitch. ANOVA revealed the contributions of different parameters and their interactions among which 54.01% by winglet thickness and a combined contribution of 27.5% by winglet height + thickness are found to be significant. The results show that the performance of the internal surface attachment improved the heat transfer rate.
