Abstract

In this paper experimental work was carried out on transportation spark ignition engine using ethanol as a fuel. Ever increasing energy demand and cost of importing crude oil one has to go for alternative transportation fuels. Ethanol is best suitable alternative fuel for SI engines. Ethanol is presently produced from sugar industries. Fuel Consumption decreased with E20 (20% Ethanol and 80% Gasoline by % vol) as compared to gasoline. Similarly energy consumption also decreased by using E20. Harmful engine emissions namely CO 2 , CO and HC are lower in case of E20 as compared to gasoline fuelled engine operation. Economic feasibility was also estimated for both fuels. Running Cost was higher in case of Gasoline as compared to E20. Running Cost of gasoline is 3.8 Rs/km, whereas for E20 it is 3.3 Rs/km. Therefore ethanol fueled engines are ecofriendly with low running cost.
