Abstract

Goal of this research presents the analysis of power and torque on vertical wind turbine of savonius type L. For reason choosing type Savonius-L vertical axis wind turbine is that edge of turbine blade curved like letter L, so that the wasted wind to the edge of the turbine will be still retained to increase thrust on the turbine. The angle on the edge of the turbine curvature needs to be considered because it will be the input parameter in the simulation. The scenario used is the power that can be captured by the turbine based on wind speed and rotor's rotation speed, as well as the torque simulation. The next scenario is power based on the number of blades on the turbine. The highest power scenario result is 643,51 W when wind speeds are 20 m/s and rotor's rotation speed is 50 rad/s, this result is higher than previous research. The highest torque is 47,64 N.m when wind speed 20 m/s and the rotation speed 1 rad/s. Turbine with 2 blade can capture higest power than other turbine at wind speed 20 m/s. The greater wind speed, the power that can be captured by the turbine is also getting bigger and the torque too. Besides that, the greater the rotor's rotation speed, the rotor torque will be smaller. The more turbine blades, the power will be smaller. The blade on the savonius type L turbine is more ideal if using 2 blades.
