Abstract

Power management in WiMAX networks depends on the duration and position of the listening interval of sleep mode. In this paper, we have developed a power saving class (PSC) for varying (both in position and duration) listening interval by combining PSC-I and PSC-II. First, the sleep interval of PSC-I is customized from truncated binary exponent (TBE) to cyclic binary exponent (CBE) algorithm. Second, the modified sleep interval of PSC-I is combined with fixed sleep interval of PSC-II. Finally, the resultant PSC is formulated by applying a scaling rule that downscales the duration and choose the position of the listening interval with reference to the current listen interval of PSC-II. The performance of the proposed PSC is studied by varying the interarrival time, minimum and maximum sleep intervals at Mobile Station (MS). It is observed that the response delay and the energy consumption is reduced by 91.77% and 67.52%, respectively, in the proposed PSC compared to conventional PSC-I scheme.
