Abstract

Adjusting the field weakening point of a permanent magnet synchronous machine with embedded magnets in traction applications is studied and evaluated. The main objective of the paper is to adjust the flux linkage and speed ranges of the electrical motor in the drive design process to meet the voltage and current resources of the frequency converter and to find an optimal result for the combination of the converter and the motor. The motor inductance and current demand can be altered straightforwardly by changing the number of coil turns. The effect of leakage inductance on the drive performance is demonstrated. The paper proposes an algorithm for optimization and studies the performance capabilities of an embedded magnet tooth-coil wound machine.
