Abstract
Diversity techniques are known to reduce the deleterious effect of fading. Compared with maximum ratio combining (MRC) that equal gain combining (EGC) requires a much simpler implementation and has a better transmission performance. However, a closed-form expression for the bit error rate (BER) of EGC diversity system is difficult to be obtained. Normal approach to assess the BER performance of the EGC system employs Monte Carlo computer simulation. However, the most the published references did not make a detail description how to evaluate BER with Monte-Carlo simulation. We will overcome the disadvantage in the paper. The main diagram of simulating scheme is presented, and the detailed simulation methods for each model of sub-blocks are described. Finally, we draw the simulation BER curves for L=2,3,4, and 5 EGC diversity system. Analytical values of selective combining (SC) diversity and MRC diversity, and approximate ones of EGC diversity are also given. Simulation results validate the simulating method proposed is available.
