Abstract

AbstractDue to ever-increasing electricity demand with deteriorating global climatic conditions, renewable energy sources (RES) like Photovoltaic (PV) system is becoming the better and green alternative source of energy. The control parameter provided by the PV panel manufacturers are not sufficient for exact analysis of output power of the panel in dynamic weather conditions, thus the suitable and improved parameter model must be considered for performance analysis of different maximum power point techniques (MPPT) to achieve maximum output of the panel. In this paper, a five-parameter model of PV array is considered for performance analysis of two different MPPT methods, namely P&O as conventional method and fuzzy logic controller (FLC) based intelligent method. The standard test conditions and dynamic test conditions for both the methods are observed for performance analysis of the PV panel. For verification of actual operating conditions, a designed example of a simulation model based on five-parameter analysis is presented in MATLAB/Simulink environment and the simulation result for various operating conditions of the DC microgrid consisting of PV panel and DC load has been carried out. The simulation results show that the FLC-based MPPT technique provides improved results for output power compared with the P&O method.KeywordsFuzzy logic control (FLC)Maximum power point tracking (MPPT)Photovoltaic (PV)Perturb and observation (P&O)
