Abstract
This paper focuses on the performance of power line communication (PLC) system in the presence of a Gaussian distributed background noise and a non-Gaussian impulsive noise, using binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modulation scheme. In particular, we have modelled the impulsive noise by Laplace distribution and the arrival rate of a noise impulse by Bernoulli sequence. In this paper, we have shown the error rate analysis and the outage analysis of the considered set-up. First, the probability density function (PDF) of the overall combined noise is derived and then, the closed-form expressions for the average bit error rate (BER) and the outage probability have been obtained analytically using the derived PDF of the combined noise. The analytical results obtained in this paper have been verified through the simulations.
