Abstract
Antenna selection in multiple antenna systems is used as there is no loss of diversity gain. However, in a practical scenario, there is a spatial correlation between adjacent antennas. In this paper, a multiple input single output (MISO) system is considered with L transmit antennas. At the transmitter, the antennas are divided into N = L over 2 groups. We assume that there is a correlation η between two antennas of each group, however there is no correlation between antennas of two different groups. The group for which the summation of the channel power gain is highest, is selected. Then, using Alamouti transmit diversity, we derive the exact closed-form expression for the pdf of received SNR, using which we obtain symbol error rate (SER) for MPSK and MQAM constellations, and outage probability in simple form. It is proved analytically that the diversity gain of the considered system reduces to two for η ≠ 0. The SER expressions have been reduced for some special cases and compared with the available results in literature. We have presented simulation results and compared them with the derived analytical expressions.
