Abstract

AbstractFor wide area monitoring and control for a smart power grid, Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) are one of the main measuring components for synchronized measurement in real time. It is not possible without reliable, secure information and communication infrastructure. For communication between two grids and microgrids, time delay or latency is one of the main challenges faced for practical implementations. In this paper, various types of latency and their impact on Wide Area Monitoring and Control System (WAMCS) are investigated as latency is considered one of the key points for the selection of the communication system in WAMCS.KeywordsCommunication latencyPhasor measurement units (PMUs)Power system stabilityWide area monitoring and control
