Abstract

This paper has analyzed the performance of an IEC 61850-9-2 process-bus based redundant Substation Automation System (SAS) architecture. End to End (ETE) time delay performance of protection & control functions, on the SAS architecture, is demonstrated through a detailed modeling of the SAS components and its data traffic using Optimized Network Engineering Tool (OPNET). Simulation results for the proposed architecture are found to be encouraging and present an option to provide high network availability and protection reliability.
