Abstract

AbstractIn the present work of experimentation, a flat plate solar air collector with baffles was chosen. The dimension of the solar collector is (1.9 m × 1 m × 0.2 m) (L × B × H), and the area of the collector is 1.9 m2. The absorber plate is made by aluminum sheet of 2 mm. The absorber plate is painted with black paint. Transparent glass sheet of 6 mm is put above the metal casing. Glass wool is used for insulating the solar collector. Average thermal efficiency of flat plate solar air collector with baffles was found to be 43.9%, and average useful heat gain by the collector was found to be 697.2 W. Graphs of solar radiation, inlet and outlet temperature, useful heat gain by the collector and thermal efficiency of the collector were plotted with drying time. Due to use of baffles in black absorber plate, it creates turbulence and increases the heat transfer rate which enhances the performances of the solar collector.KeywordsFlat plate solar air collectorBafflesUseful heat gainThermal efficiency
