Abstract

In this letter, we propose a system model in which a two antenna single radio frequency (RF) chain transmitter dynamically changes the modulation scheme between binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and space shift keying (SSK) based on one bit feedback from an $N_r$ antenna receiver. We call this system model dynamic SSK-BPSK (DSB). We derive the decision rule used for the feedback bit and also the exact bit error rate (BER) of DSB. Furthermore, we derive the asymptotic expression of the BER of DSB, which we use to analyze the diversity order. Results show that a transmit diversity order of 2 is achieved for this 1 bit per channel use (bpcu) system model.
