Abstract

In this paper a novel methodology for analysis of electrical machines using finite element method is presented. At the beginning a short presentation of the investigated motor as well as the basic topologies, performance properties and characteristics is presented. Afterwards a brief presentation of the finite element method and its application in design and analysis of electrical machines is introduced. In the following text the methodology of modeling of the motor for the finite element analysis is shown. Using the data from the numerous calculations of the magnetic field for various current loads and rotor positions, certain electromagnetic and electromechanical characteristics of the motor are calculated, presented and an adequate conclusion is drawn. The same procedure is repeated for all three rotor topologies. At the end, a comparative analysis of the characteristics of the three different rotor topologies of the permanent magnet motor is presented and certain conclusions are made.
