Abstract

The coherent and incoherent crosstalk of an optical signal passing through OXC (optical cross connect) and OADM (optical add drop multiplexer) nodes is studied. The result shows the different impact of incoherent and coherent crosstalk. Coherent crosstalk will or will not cause noise, depending on the relationship between the optical propagation delay differences and the time duration of one bit of the signal. Incoherent crosstalk may cause very high noise power. At last, the theoretical analysis of crosstalk is given and the power penalty is obtained.
