Abstract

As the spectrum sensing performance is effected by large and small scale wireless fading channels, a novel cooperative spectrum sensing (CSS) method is proposed and the performance analysis is conducted. The proposed method completes the spectrum sensing by utilizing different clusters to sense different narrow band spectrum separately over small scale fading channels, makes fusion and decision for sensing information of all secondary users (SUs) with OR rule. Then, each cluster head transmits decision results to fusion center (FC) over large or small scale fading channels, and FC converges all cluster head information of each narrow band spectrum to realize the wideband spectrum sensing. We analyzed the effect of the sensing channel, reporting channel and the number of SUs on sensing performance over fading channels. Simulation results show that the sensing performance of the proposed method is obviously better than the single secondary user spectrum sensing. When the number of SUs in each cluster is greater than 6, the proposed method can not only reduce the sensing process and communication load, but also save energy and extend the life cycle of the rest of SUs.
