Abstract

Abstract A practical design of an integrated solar-assisted heat pump (SAHP) system with heat pipe photovoltaic/thermal (PV/T) collectors was proposed and constructed in the present work. In the system, the heat pipe PV/T solar collectors could be used to heat the water directly, or acted as the evaporator of the heat pump. The integrated SAHP system could simultaneously supply electricity and heat. Moreover, it offered different operating modes, including the solar-assisted heat pump, air-source heat pump, and heat pipe solar water heating modes. The system can operate these modes independently for water heating. A series of experiments were conducted under different weather conditions to study the performances of the integrated SAHP system operating in the solar-assisted heat pump and heat pipe solar water heating modes, respectively.
