Abstract

Dual Active Bridge (DAB) converter is getting more attention in Electric Vehicle (EV) charging applications, due to its high efficiency, high power density, bidirectional power flow, isolation feature, and low component stresses (obtained due to Zero Voltage Switching). Different modulation techniques have been explored to operate the DAB impeccably. Wherein, this paper presents the performance analysis of the Single Phase Shift (SPS) modulation technique for optimal operation of DAB in EV charging applications. The design, steady-state and dynamic performance of the DAB converter is theoretically analyzed and validated using simulation studies. From the simulation studies, it is observed that DAB possesses an optimal performance with the SPS modulation technique and has an efficiency of 96 % at full load and 91.5 % at light load conditions making it suitable for EV charging applications.
