Abstract

This manuscript presents the study of the Cascade H Bridge Multilevel inverter (CHB-MLI) topology with symmetrical & asymmetrical configurations. CHB-MLI topology is compared with conventional MLI topologies, Diode clamped and flying capacitor in terms of switch count required, the number of sources required and application comparability, etc. To improve the output quality of CHB-MLI, Multicarrier and hybrid PWM techniques are implemented with over and under modulation index on 7-level CHB-MLI and the MLI’s output performance is analyzed in terms of Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). This manuscript provides substantial information on CHB-MLI which will be beneficial in understanding various aspects pertaining to existing MLI topologies. The performance analysis of the 7-level cascade H Bridge with symmetrical and asymmetrical structure has been performed on MATLAB/SIMULINK platform.
