Abstract

The aim of this paper is analyzing the performance of 3-phase wound rotor induction motor (WRIM) under resistance asymmetrical fault conditions in stator and rotor windings. The behavior of WRIM in winding asymmetrical fault condition is simulated with MATLAB/Simulink software using modified qd equations in stationary reference frame. With the aid of simulation results, variations of electromagnetic torque, rotor speed and stator and rotor currents have been investigated under healthy and faulty conditions. It is shown that in winding asymmetrical fault conditions, the time and size of primary and steady state fluctuations in torque and rotor speed curves change and additional oscillations in steady state is observed. In the stator and rotor current curves, steady state time, sub transient oscillations and maximum phase current in steady state and transient as well as harmonic components change. According to the results, the total harmonic distortion (THD) index in rotor winding asymmetrical fault is affected more than in stator winding fault.
