Abstract

This work presents the system performance analysis of 2×2 space-time block code (STBC) for DFT-spread polarization division multiplexing (PDM) coherent optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (CO-OFDM) systems (2×2 STBC DFT-spread PDM-CO-OFDM). The optical channel impairments of random phase noise (RPN), chromatic dispersion (CD), polarization mode dispersion (PMD) and polarization dependent loss (PDL) are considered. The system performance of the proposed method is evaluated by numerical simulations based on Monte-Carlo method. The length of fiber can be reached to 960 km and 1,300 km for 64-QAM and 16-QAM at the forward error correction (FEC) limit. Especially, the simulation performance and analysis show that PDL tolerance of 12 dB can be achieved when 2×2 STBC is employed.
