Abstract
In this paper a model for the performance evaluation of local area networks is presented, consisting of multiple token rings interconnected through a bridge. Message arrivals are assumed to be Markovian with exponentially distributed message lengths. An expression for the mean delay in transmitting messages between stations on different rings is derived. These derivations were confirmed by simulation using a high level language, Modula-2, and also by a general purpose simulation language, SLAM.
