Abstract

Introduction:Colorectal cancer (CRC), a disease that affects segments of the large intestine, is one of the most common neoplasms and has a great impact on morbidity and mortality worldwide.Objective: To analyze the profile of patients with colorectal cancer (CRC), which is a malignant neoplasm that affects the large intestine and/or rectum. The study patients were admitted to elective hospital treatment at the hospital in a coastal city in Brazil (Santos - SP) from 2021 to 2023. Methods: Cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach, based on the analyzes analyzed in the medical records. Results: The patients in the present study with colon and rectal cancer surgically treated during the period had a mean age of 63.3 ± years, 50% female and 50% male. study. The average length of stay was 6.5 ± days, of these patients, those who stayed in the ICU had an average time of 3.52 ± days. Conclusion: From this study, it was possible to outline the epidemiological profile of the evaluated patients, with this data consistent with that available in the current literature. Furthermore, it was possible to determine the most common histological type and analyze the duration of immediate postoperative hospitalization in both the ward and the intensive care unit. In this way, strategies for improvement, ranging from the surgical approach to these patients to intra-hospital postoperative care, can be established.
