Abstract

Objective: To identify clinical and epidemiological data of children and adolescents with hemophilia followed at the Center for Hematology and Hemotherapy of Piaui, characterizing them in terms of age, place of residence, type, severity, main complications, use of prophylaxis and adherence to follow-up. Method: Descriptive, observational and cross-sectional study, using data extracted from the medical records of 63 patients under 18 years of age. The results obtained were analyzed using absolute and relative frequency, in addition to the chi-square test (x2 ). Results: Among 63 patients, 95% had type A hemophilia, 67% had the severe form, and 59% were aged between 11 and 18 years. The presence of complications was associated with a greater number of visits per year. These predominated in the form of chronic arthropathy (37%), while intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) affected 6% of patients. In patients with indication for prophylaxis, 7% did not do it. Among the 05 patients with severe hemophilia who attended 01 visit per year, 80% were from the inland cities and 20% from another state. Conclusions: The clinical and epidemiological characterization of children and adolescents in this specialized reference center corroborates the data available in the literature.
