Abstract

BIOCHEMICAL SERUM PROFILE OF SAANEN AND BOER GOATS It is crucial to determine an animal's serum biochemical profile in order to evaluate its nutritional state, making it possible to detect metabolic alterations as well as assist clinical diagnosis of several diseases. To be successful in such a task, it is essential to consider the reference values for different species according to breed, sex, and age. Thus, a total of 20 serum samples from Saanen and Boer goats were collected and submitted to laboratorial analysis for the determination of serum concentrations of total protein, aspartate aminotranspherase, gama-glutamyltranspherase, alkaline phosphatase, urea, creatinine, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium, potassium, and ionized calcium. The results revealed that breed type had no influence on the assessment of biochemical profiles.
