Abstract

Bone grafting reconstruction of the severely atrophic resorbed edentulous maxilla to accommodate endosteal implants has been the subject of many studies. The use of the autologous bone graft and the search for an optimal donor site have been of great importance and interest for years.1,2 Among the potential donor sites, the calvarium, the tibia, and the iliac crest have received the greatest attention.2-5 The superiority of the iliac crest over the other donor sites has been shown.6-8 Thus, the iliac crest is the “gold standard” by which other donor sites are evaluated.
