Abstract
Currently in the United States, the most common hemodialysis access is arteriovenous (AV) fistulas. Classically this is created through open surgical technique. With the advent and increasing utilization of endovascular technologies and the overall transformation of the vascular surgery field, there is increasing demand for percutaneous fistula creation. Currently there are two commercially available medical devices for percutaneous fistula creation. At our institution, where the first percutaneous fistula creation in the Midwest occurred, we utilize the WaveLinQ system, manufactured by Bard.
