Abstract

The percutaneous absorption of indomethacin following short- and long- term administration of indomethacin absorption ointment to the same skin surface in the rabbits were compared in this study. The level of absorption of indomethacin as reflected by plasma concentration was significantly increased by the repeated applications of the indomethacin absorption ointment on the abdominal site. A pharmacokinetic model was derived to analyze the percutaneous absorption after being repeatedly administrated to the rabbits. The model can fairly describe the plasma level curves of indomethacin from the 1st day to the 8th day during which the drug was applied on the dorsal site for 10-h every day.
