Abstract

In this paper, we first present a video quality metric based on human vision. We then propose a new perceptual video local activity metric. These two metrics are of great interest for the optimization of both the transmission and the coding of video sequences. Consequently, next we motivate the use of these metrics in order to increase the end-user perceptual quality of MPEG-2 based video services by showing results on three different application fields.KeywordsDiscrete Cosine TransformVideo QualityHuman Visual SystemPerceptual QualityVideo ServiceThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors. This process is experimental and the keywords may be updated as the learning algorithm improves.
