Abstract

Abstract This chapter maps the gaps between public health sectors and the perceptions of public health held by those in other sectors. These gaps often stand in the way of effective collaboration, partnership, and communication, although public health professionals have long understood the interconnectedness of health and other aspects of community and individual health. This chapter identifies gaps in understanding about public health, based on data gathered from public health professionals and professionals outside of public health. These gaps profoundly limit recognition of the field’s value. However, areas of common ground between public health and other sectors are also identified as foundational spaces where strong collaboration and cross-sector partnership can be forged for mutual benefit and better health.
